Dingle on Day 6

Well if this doesn't sum Dingle up in a picture, I don't know what could. Oh, wait...(check the gallery below). It's BEAUTIFUL!

So we woke up in Cork and promptly showered, dressed and headed down Patrick's Hill for the final time (for a while at least), grabbed breakfast at Cork Coffee Roasters, and ran back up the hill to consume our americanos and pastries in the park at the top of the hill - overlooking the city. While sitting and eating we realized that the park overlooks one of the guidebook's top sights, which was Saint Anne's - The Four-Faced Lair. Check!

Saint Anne's Church was known as the Four-Faced Liar because of its four clocks that face out from each side of the tower - at one point in time every clock told a different time....LIAR. So we ate breakfast while staring down the lair as we prepared ourselves for what promised to be an intense, but beautiful drive from Cork to Dingle. We loaded back into the car and headed out!

Over the course of two and a half hours we left the City of Cork, jumped on a highway for a period of time, and then slowly started to make our way on more scenic roads as we approached the two hour-mark. I think I mentioned that the car rental company "upgraded" us to a small SUV, which I don't think was an upgrade...I think it was a hilarious joke they play on unsuspecting tourists. Well, this SUV, while playing to my American ideals, was am absolute joy to drive on a narrow road with some 900 year old man coming at me from the other direction at 120 kmh, while Brendan screams for his life because the greenery on his side is coming in through the windows....in the end we made...and promptly found a drink.

This time round we're staying in a traditional bed and breakfast - and our hosts were not home. So, we parked the car and walked back into town to explore an find a bit of lunch. After checking out the Tourist Center and a few lunch options we settled on the Dingle Bay Hotel's restaurant. Free WiFi and great soup with a pint. This is when we discovered that the entire country was preparing for a dry day. No liquor on Good Friday...anywhere (more to come, because we definitely lucked out). This is about to change next year, but as for now...no serving on Good Friday or Christmas - law of the land.

So with our new found knowledge we resigned ourselves to mapping out a full itinerary the next day to keep ourselves busy through the holiday. We made our way back to Dunlavin House to check in where we met our hosts (amazing and hilarious individuals), took a nap, and then headed back into town for some dinner. After exploring several options we ended up back at the same restaurant we ate lunch at because they had an amazing trad music session going on during dinner...fish, chips, a pint and music made for the perfect evening. Not to mention sticky toffee bread pudding.

The new catch phrase of the vacation is "stick with the sticky" thanks to our waitress.
